Fishing Tips for Bremer Bay

Bremer Bay offers a fantastic location for all fishing enthusiasts.

With great access for onshore fishing locations and a marina for deep sea fishing, Bremer Bay has it all. Plus fantastic four wheel driving, swimming, spearfishing, snorkelling and lazing around on the beach.

Bremer Bay Beaches Resort Tourist Park is perfectly located near the marina at fisheries beach on Swarbrick Road. The Marina offers boat launching facilities, a service wharf and mooring area for fishing and recreational vessels, plus fish cleaning facilities.

Fishing Gear

The type of fishing gear you will need depends on the species you are targeting and the fishing spot you choose.

For beach fishing, a surf rod and reel with a variety of lures and baits is a good option, A lighter rod for targeting herring/whiting will ensure a good haul.

For estuary fishing, a lighter rod and reel with smaller lures and baits is more suitable.

Rock fishing requires a sturdy rod and reel with heavy line and tackle.

Using Fresh Bait: Fish in Bremer Bay are used to eating a variety of baitfish, including herring, whitebait, and pilchards. You can buy fresh bait from the Beaches kiosk (pilchards, coral prawns or squid).

Safety
Always be aware of the tides and currents when fishing in Bremer Bay, never turn your back on the ocean. The Southern Ocean can be unpredictable, so it is important to take precautions, especially when rock fishing. Always wear a life jacket and fish with a buddy. Free on loan life jackets are available from Bremer Bay Rural & Hardware.

Tips:

Target fish at the right time of day: Fish are more active at certain times of day, depending on the species. Salmon are best caught early in the morning or late in the afternoon, while mulloway and squid for example, are more active at night.

Be patient: Fishing is a waiting game. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t catch a fish straight away. Keep casting and eventually you will be rewarded.

Good luck on your fishing adventures in Bremer Bay!
